Let the Hunt Begin!

Guess who graduates in a few weeks?  Guess who is still looking for a job?  Guess who won’t, consequently, be writing more Star Trek Online fan-fiction or posting regularly on Dragon Hunt (which needs a site update ASAP that will connect it with this blog…), at least until he finds a job?

If you answered any of the above questions, Reader, with my name, then you are correct!  Never fear, though: I will keep my creative juices flowing.  I’ve been dividing my free time recently between three activities: playing League of Legends, reading David Weber’s On Basilisk Station (I’m reading the hard copy, but it looks like I just found an online version…), and designing my own sci-fi warship (Astrea Alexandra) and universe to go with it.  The first two you won’t hear much about on this blog.  I might mention that I did discover that–with a fully charged Bloodthirster, a page of Fervor Ruins, an Infinity Edge, and a pair of Phantom Dancers–Caitlyn becomes an amazingly unfair champion to play, doing 1,000+ damage per second to enemies that have probably no more than 8,000 health, max.  I feel like there should be some kind of a law explicitly preventing me from using that build, but since there isn’t, I will enjoy Caitlyn, the machine-gun of death.  However, most of you will not know what that means (you poor, poor people).  I might also regale you with Honor Harrington’s exploits and snarky come-backs (especially after “accidentally” damaging a Haven diplomatic ship–completely on purpose, of course), but I wouldn’t want to ruin the surprises.  What you will hear the most about, though, is the sci-fi universe I’m developing.

More information will follow as the concept becomes more fleshed out.  I’ve been working on the concept for a couple years, with a couple false starts.  It owes a lot to Andromeda Ascendant, the ship and not the TV show (the TV show quickly descended into a twitching pile of madness and poor writing, but the ship was amazing).  In the universe of my ship, Astrea Alexandra, heavily armored and shielded warships with light-speed sensors fight by exchanging volleys of antimatter warheads across 60 light-seconds (18,000,000 km).  And of course, the ship is alive and has an avatar like Rommie, except that her avatar is a cybernetically enhanced human clone rather than an android…yeah, I’ll just have to explain it all later.

What I’ve Been Up To…Content to Come

I have not writen much in the last couple weeks, nor have I updated my webcomic, which is unfortunate.  My excuse is that I am preparing new delights for you, Reader.  The alternative explanation is that I’ve been spending too much time playing Star Trek Online and thinking about further fanfictions of it–which means exactly the same thing.

I’ve played up through level 25 in the game, where it unlocks Klingon play.  Carlin got a new ship, and with the availability of Klingon faction play (which includes the Orion, the Gorn, and the Nausicaans as additional playable bad-guys) a new rival.  She also got many, many adventures for me to chronical.  It will take some time, but hopefully those will be forthcoming.  I’m also going to have to do a little editing of what I’d already writen, but it will be light and done before you know I was there.

Other things I’ve been up to include two tabletop RPGs.  Unfortunately, you cannot join me for either of those, but I can tell you about them and perhaps amuse you with the crazy antics the dice bring on.  My main campaign is a fantasy campaign run by a friend of mine named Josh, which I play with three other guys and a girl (yes, we found one of the rare, elusive gamer-girls).  We have a dwarf “rock-golem” named Corben, who serves as an excellent tank.  We have a sea-folk archer named Isla–once our party NPC who was taken over by the girl player when she came along.  We were joined later by an old wizard with a shillelagh named Othar (the wizard, not the stick), and just recently by a vigilante with a cool name…which I’ve completely forgotten, yeah.  I planned on playing a support character in this game and was originally thinking of doing a monk-healer type, but that got scrapped when the GM revealed that there was no organized religion in this fantasy world–and the Western-style monk I’d envisioned couldn’t exist apart from one (no organized religion=no monasteries =no monk-healers).  Instead, I tried to create a back up character based off of Sona, my favorite support champion from League of Legends.  What I wound up with instead was rather different: a young knife-wielding psychic with a mysterious past named Arietta (yes, I’m a crossplayer, get over it).  Arietta is cursed with curiosity and so when exploring a necromancers tomb she just couldn’t resist touching the cursed necromantic trapdoor–which ripped her soul from her body and turned her into a ghost.  Hopefully we can get that fixed…though our choices right now seem to be between somehow persuading a necromancer to undo the damage or destroying Arietta’s body, which would allow her to die normally (and would be very sad).  Last session she got to live it up a little, though, when some primitive swamp dwellers mistook her for a Great Spirit, emissary of the gods, while they mistook her friends for trespassers.  She got to pull a C3PO (as the GM called it, a reference to the part of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi where C3PO is mistaken by the Ewoks for a god and uses this power to rescue his friends, who are mistaken for dinner).

My other RPG is one that I play with just me and my friend who plays Corbin in the other game.  We each have characters and switch of GMing in the madcap sci-fi adventures of Zark and Jeeves.  My friend plays Zark, the criminal mastermind who’s probably not even four feet tall and deceptively cute.  I play his butler-bot, whom he stole and downloaded into the body of an advanced battle droid making him a devastating and proper British servant.  We ran into a group of smugglers and rescued them from a pack of void raptors, after which we received their mysterious alien cube which transported us to a desert planet.  There we had the pleasure of nearly getting eaten by a giant ant-lion and a giant sand-worm.  After that, we traded with primitive locals and rested up for our next adventure.  Since the next turn at GMing is my friend’s I look forward to the adventure…as I look forward to writing and creating more for you!
